Black Bright and Briliant

A journey of creativity, pride, and personal growth for young Black artists.

The Black, Bright & Brilliant Artist Residency is an annual summer program dedicated to nurturing the creativity, confidence, and career pathways of young Black artists. Rooted in cultural pride and equity, the residency exists to ensure that emerging Black creatives see their voices, talents, and futures as valuable, visible, and viable.

Each summer, three accomplished Black teaching artists lead youth (ages 12–17) through a transformational experience that blends artistic skill-building, personal storytelling, and professional development. Participants explore healing through the arts, master visual techniques from traditional portraiture to digital tools, and learn how to present and promote their work.

More than just an art program, Black, Bright & Brilliant is a commitment to:

  • Equity – providing free access to high-quality arts education, mentorship, and resources that young Black artists are too often denied.

  • Artist Development – equipping participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to sustain an artistic practice and pursue creative careers.

  • Cultural Empowerment – affirming identity, preserving stories, and showing that Black art is essential to our collective future.

The residency culminates in a public showcase, where each artist shares their work and creative journey with the community. Participants leave with original artworks, a professional portfolio, and the skills to step into the art world as confident, capable, and connected creatives.
